Getting Bitcoins in Dublin and Using Wallet for the First Time

Bitcoin Voucher

What is Bitcoins? How do we get Bitcoins? How do we use Bitcoins? How do Bitcoins work? Are all really hard questions to answer without actually going through the process yourself. Do you have any clue how the international financial system works before you buy a cup of coffee? No, but maybe you should learn about this kind of stuff in the future. For now I will describe how someone from can get Bitcoins working on their mobile phone so they can purchase coffee in one of two cafes I know that uses Bitcoins.

If you have a smart phone, just search in your application store for what we call a “Bitcoin wallet”, this will receive, store and send your Bitcoins. I have no preference for any particular wallet. I just downloaded the first one I saw with a good rating. As long as you are only experimenting with a small number of Bitcoins, it is OK to take a risk. Remember that if you lose your phone, you lose the Bitcoins saved in the wallet.

GSM Solutions is the only place in Dublin that I know of that sells Bitcoins. I do not know any websites online were one can buy Bitcoins with ease. Today the price of Bitcoin went up slightly to €195 per Bitcoin. One can buy 0.1BTC for €20, which leaves a small margin for commission. Much easier that fiddling with bank details online. Unfortunately today their Internet was down so I could purchase a Bitcoin, but they generously gave me a free sample to explore with.

They gave me paper voucher to collect my Bitcoins online. At first I thought this was a bit convenient as I wanted it now on my phone. I went on to the Coinkite website with the special address given on the voucher. I had to go into my Bitcoin wallet to click  on my QR code to read the long Bitcoin wallet address. I had to type in my wallets address to receive my Bitcoins. I actually made one mistake with the capitals and the request luckily did not go through. After carefully typing in the Bitcoin wallet address and sending it, the Bitcoins finally reached the Bitcoin Wallet on my phone in seconds. The transaction is then recorded in the public Bitcoin ledger, called the “blockchain”, for everyone to review the transaction.

So I went into the shop. Spoke to the lads. Made an order and had Bitcoins on my mobile phone shortly after coming home. Nice and simple after you get your head around how the technology works. It is the money of the future.

Now what can I purchase with mBTC0.25? Bitmatches?

Why We Love Using AMPPS to Install WordPress on Our Local PC And Other Applications

Studying web development in college, we used to argue over which was better way to install WordPress on our local computer. WAMP and XAMP were at the time the more popular options at the time. Sometimes using these servers can cause a lot of pain and heartache for hours trying to everything to work. Now I have come across AMPPS as the best solution installing a local server for either testing out WordPress developments or other CMS for music, gaming, social networking or e-commerce.

Using AMPPPS is straight forward one click install for everything.

However some tricky problems may arise. It possible to get error while you are trying to run Apache such as:

Apache port 80: is being used by another application.

First option is to panic, second option use try workout what other process or service is using the same port as Apache. Use to the command prompt to see what is the PID of the program that using the same port.

C:\> netstat -aon

It is still possible that you cannot find the source of the problem. It is possible that if you are using Windows that you may have installed Internet Information Services(IIS), which is a curse and a blessing at times. To solve this, we have to go to our control panel, find the administrative tools(which can be a little hidden if you are using Vista), then open IIS Manager. Select “HTTP Response Headers” and then press stop.

While AMPPS can have some problems in its installation, it is such a joy to use with the freedom just click and install new software toys to play with.

I do not know to express how much this made me happy today. Having a favicon that responsive for all mobile and desktop devices probably should not give me this much of a kick, but it does. Tomorrow Google will start punishing websites that arent not responsive to mobile devices by pushing them drastically down the Google rank. Having a favicon that is ready for different devices, with different pixel sizes, is just one more responsive trick one can do to stay one step ahead of the game. Just another reason why you SEO advisor should be a web developer.

But why have a favicon in the first place? As my sister puts it, a favicon just gives your website that extra little professional polish that it needs to stand out in the global market. One many reasons why your small or medium sized business should be using WordPress as its custom management system(CMS) is that it is easy to install plugins to do all these repetitive tasks for you. Setting up responsive favicons is easy, but boring to do and take up an entire day. But with Real Favicon Generator the task is done with in minutes.

Super-Bright LED Torch App For Android Review

To get to the studio which I work in, I have to walk down a lane way. I came back one night to catch up on some work and I couldnt see my way in the dark night. Luckily I remembered that I downloaded this phone application that uses the cameras flash as a flash light. It does the trick perfectly. The torch is much brighter than I expected.

I recommend downloading this app for Android phones. You never know when you might need it. It deserves a five star rating.

Random Acts Of Chaos And Backing Up Work

I bought a new domain name which I was going to use to develop a new project I had in mind. I thought I might as well let it sit on top of my main website that I use to present myself to clients. Happy with my days work I went to get on a train to meet with a friend who works in marketing.

On the train I received a notification of an e-mail informing me that someone had installed a website on hosting. Even stranger still I received another e-mail saying that it been removed. I checked my main website. All my content had been destroyed!

I found out that someone from tech support had violated my hosting package by installing a website on top of a website that already existed. Thus destroying all my content. All I got from tech support was an explanation about happened, but they never decided to undo the destruction that they have caused. I was furious, but anger only weights one down.

So I had work on developing a new website, identical to my last, to be my new main website that I use to present myself. I was able to use PHPMyAdmin to look at my old database for some of my content. So not all was lost.

When I was a senior web developer for a company, we didnt have these kind of shenanigans. But this is the price you pay when you rely on tech support to manage your hosting. The main lesson learned is to always back up ones work. Even if you have paid money to a hosting company to protect your website form random acts of destruction, chaos can always from within.

New Website Up and Ready To Go!

After spending sometime talking to peers in the web industry, I deduced that HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap and AngularJS are the current industry standard for web design. At this day of age, responsive web design that is easily viewable by desktops, mobile and tablets is a must. WordPress is still the CMS of choice for most small to medium businesses.

After spending time planning carefully what I wanted, I built a website to promote professional skills. There were bumps along the way, but it is all a part of the learning experience. Even though this website only took me three hours to get up and running smoothly, each hour took a day to plan ahead. Planning is the longest and most essential part of good web project management.

Now I am ready to take on new clients, business opportunities and adventures. Confident knowing that I can take the web head on.

Pleas contact if you are interested in working together to build a web project.
